Does it make sense to have a monthly subscription for a premium listing in a software marketplace? : Entrepreneur

SaaSHub AlternativeTo
  1. Find and promote software that will help you grow your business or to be more productive.
    Pricing:
    • Freemium
    • $99.0 / Monthly (Featured Product Listing)
I released a new software marketplace recently (SaaSHub), and I'm considering the various options of future monetization. It is focused on alternatives in the SaaS space. One of the options that I'm considering is a monthly subscription that would provide a highlighted/premium listing. The reason being - the lifetime value of a single SaaS customer is pretty high on average. Hence, even the conversion of a single new client would be worth a $50/m subscription in a third-party marketplace.

  2. AlternativeTo lets you find apps and software for Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad, Android, Android Tablets, Web Apps, Online, Windows Tablets and more by recommending alternatives to apps you already know.
The second option I'm considering is accepting sponsorships and displaying sponsors' logos at the bottom of most pages. I just don't want to clutter the site with "regular" ads. For example, one of my biggest competitors is "AlternativeTo.net" and their UI is a bit cluttered and "noisy".
