If you are downloading Kali from Chrome, please don't. Copy the download link and use wget. For whatever reason, Chrome caps our downloads for files at or greater than 1gb. I'm guessing you are on Windows, which I know wget does not come by default. In that case download CMDER which comes with some UNIX commands pre-installed. Source: almost 3 years ago

If possible, get Windows 10 Pro. It gives you access to the Group Policy Editor - not available in Win 10 Home edition - which is where you can turn off things like telemetry and auto updates. That should help you get rid of most annoyances. You can manually clear out your start screen so that pressing the Win key just pops up your wallpaper and lets you type to search for programs and files. Just download cmder https://cmder.net/ Or gitbash https://gitforwindows.org/ If you're doing the JavaScript path you don't need to worry about VMs, gitbash or cmder allow you to run unix commands on Windows, and will save you a lot of headbanging. Source: over 3 years ago

Short history. I had installed CMDER from https://cmder.net/. In my efforts to configure it, I fubar'd something so I uninstalled it. Then I reinstalled it - but then realized I installed it at a place I didn't want it. So, uninstall, reinstall again. At one point I installed it under a folder cmdr vs cmder. WSL2 is good -- I actually do 99.999% of what I need to with just CMDER https://cmder.net/ --- gives me git, grep, sed, ls, and a handful of useful command line things, lets me choose which terminal to use... Can be used with wsl2... it's a wonderful tool. Source: over 3 years ago
