> None of these lists ever seem to be as fleshed out, up to date, or well organized as https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted or "best of" lists to pick a couple options to evaluate in more depth. I first used basic google analytics but found it too invasive/heavy so I switched over to https://www.goatcounter.com/. For comments, most solutions were also too heavy, paid or had ads, but I finally found https://giscus.app/. Every blog needs some social interaction, like comments and reactions. I didn't want to spend a lot of time on creating a reliable comment system. After some research, I found Giscus which uses GitHub Discussions to integrate comments. It's very easy to customize and use. Just adding one component gave me a fully-functional comment system with authentication and reactions. - Source: dev.to / 11 months ago
Then I met Giscus and a simple local implementation by an ID that all posts have worked without any trouble. However, although this site is simple in its concept, the potential for the Users' engagement via comments can be quite a thing and that could create a rate-limit issue in the future. Fortunately, Giscus can be self-hosted. Source: almost 1 year ago
