  • Show HN: I created an app for you to be a more unpredictable romantic partner
Anything you put elsewhere is not more secure, unless you are more secure than Apple's servers, which seems highly unlikely. If you don't have it, it can't get compromised. The user has an iCloud account, you can write to iCloud storage without making them "sign in" to your app. It's their data, they can find it in the folder for your app in their iCloud drive on a Mac. And see... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago

Why do you need them to have an account? What on your roadmap requires it? And perhaps you could leverage Game Center accounts for "play" data, which leverages Apple's sensitivity to provide privacy while allowing achievements, multiplayer, and turn-based games, between partners. https://developer.apple.com/game-center/. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
  • CloudKit - how would I compare a user’s score to other users?
u/JTostitos is right though that Game Center was designed for this although it has gone out of style with many game studios lately. But it all depends on how the game is designed... I looked into this some time ago as I was fed up with WebDAV being the only viable open protocol for file shares/synchronization (especially after hosting my own NextCloud instance, which OOMed... - Source: Hacker News / 1 day ago

This doesn't support the various consumer cloud storage APIs, but you've just reminded me of a project I ran into years ago that seems to still be around: https://remotestorage.io/ There's also Solid which attempts to do something similar: https://solidproject.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago

I have seen one web app uses the remote storage library. It does fit your criteria, but I don't think there is much traction yet. [0]: https://remotestorage.io/. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • Ask HN: Experience using your user's Google Drive instead of a database?
RemoteStorage https://remotestorage.io/ seems to be trying to do this too I also really like the https://sandstorm.io approach which goes a little farther beyond. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
