The only way I can foresee a cryptocoin actually holding value is if spending the coin meant spending processing cycles and RAM doing things like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_volunteer_computing_projects But in more general sense, less like https://boinc.berkeley.edu/ and more like AWS... It's the only way to have value, actually holding computing power in a distributed network. - Source: Hacker News / 2 months ago
  • Folding@Home: We empower anyone to become a citizen scientist
Or alternatively: Boinc[1], which has a bunch of different projects. [1] https://boinc.berkeley.edu/. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • Distributed Inference and Fine-Tuning of Large Language Models over the Internet
Made me think of Gridcoin and BOINC https://boinc.berkeley.edu/. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • Have you ever donated your computing power with BOINC? Take 5 minutes to fill out the 2023 BOINC Census!
The BOINC Census is back for another year! BOINC is an open source software and network for volunteer computing. People can use it do donate their CPU/GPU power to various scientific research areas like cancer, drug discovery, mapping the galaxy, and more. Source: 8 months ago
  • Ask HN: What should I do with my leftover bandwidth?
A few years back, I was in a similar situation and found BOINC(https://boinc.berkeley.edu/) to be a great way to contribute. It's a platform that lets you support various scientific research projects by sharing your computational power and bandwidth. However, it's worth noting that BOINC might tends to be more CPU/GPU intensive rather than bandwidth-heavy. - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago

Barns such as myracehorse.com does not require you to have a line of credit because you are buying micro shares instead of 2.5% of a multi-million $ horse which I just read includes breeding rights and a share of his breeding revenue. Also they do not use Keeneland sales where this share will be offered and goes to the highest bidder, like the sales of all horses normally does. This share is definitely not about a... • Video of Steinbeck’s 3rd race. Looking at this race, he looks like he may need to shorten up. I was also looking at his last workout which was Saturday and he ranked 10/46 while breezing 4 furlongs at Keeneland in 48.8 seconds
Checked out Commonwealth, that looks interesting...now I know how you are one of the owners, that's cool...sorta like myracehorse.com. Source: over 2 years ago
  • I sold my house to buy more MVIS... This is my story and my whole portfolio! 9500 shares!!
Check this out: https://myracehorse.com/ My first horse (share) was actually making money, $50 here $70 there…. And then it literally broke a leg running in a race! The good thing though I did get a small refund when they put him out to pasture. Ended up breaking even or close. If you have a track near you this is even more fun because you can attend exclusive events! Once I cash out my MVIS I’ll buy some more... Source: almost 3 years ago
