I loved the concept. A company like custommade.com (I have no affiliation BTW) could be used to design and make each ring according to the person's preference. In addition to a jeweler or etsy, there are some websites that are specifically set up for custom jewelry. I used CustomMade for my fiance's ring, and we both adore how it came out.
