  • The grid isn’t ready for 300M EVs by 2030
Upgrading the power lines isn't the full answer, certainly some upgrades will be required, but the wires are designed for peak demand. EVs have flexibility, and can mostly be charged in non-peak times, drastically reducing the powerline and power station upgrades required. This flexibility has to be managed, and there are many companies working on this. For example: https://ev.energy/. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • The grid isn’t ready for 300M EVs by 2030
The post title misses the important "without investment and changes in charging habits". Most EVs can already be controlled to set charging preferences to match lower cost, off-peak charging overnight. However, this isn't the full solution as it can create secondary demand peaks. For example, if everyone in one region has an off-peak rate starting at midnight, you will get a step-change in demand at that time.... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • Charging an EV strictly from excess Solar...
Ev.energy has a solar charging mode that lets you charge w/ excess solar. I would appreciate it if you used my referral code if you decide to sign up: 278842. Source: about 1 year ago
  • OCPP EV Charger Management Software Recommendations
Monta, Electric miles, ev.energy (Pando), EVerest (Pionix) opensource, Ampeco (not cheap): these are just off the top of my head. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Home Charger Installation Advice
I imagine some of your cost is the need to have an outdoor capable plug. At this point I'd be very tempted to get a charger and get it hardwired (why add a plug that is just another point to fail in the elements). Generally the cables are longer, you can get more data about your charging. I'm getting a rebate from National Grid for charging off hours via ev.energy (in Massachusetts) but it requires certain cars... Source: over 1 year ago

  • Renting a Tesla Model 3 from Hertz for a SD - OC trip - charging recommendations?
You can see all the superchargers at https://tesla.com/findus they don’t have the cost on the website. You can also look at https://tesla.com/trips. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Destination Chargers - Any Help Appreciated
If memory serves, in order for Tesla to help fund the installing of Tesla chargers you have to be willing to have the chargers listed on the "findus" section of their site, so if the chargers aren't going to be offered to the public, then I wouldn't go that route. Source: about 2 years ago
  • tesla.com/findus no longer has a filter for superchargers open to non-teslas
Tesla's website used to have a filter to only show Superchargers that are available to non-Teslas. That filter has since been removed. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Superchargers fully occupied traveling on i80, almost 15 minutes wait on average. I think opening to other EVs a bad idea.
You can check for yourself at https://tesla.com/findus. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Can You Expedite a Mobile Service Appointment
I am aware that the "local" phone numbers posted at tesla.com/findus for service centers make it notoriously hard to get a hold of an actual human, but I have heard it is possible with some phone tree luck. Source: almost 3 years ago
