It doesn't seem that severe tbh. They payed quite some cash for him to come work for them at exercise.com, another website they were developing at the time and he dropped out after 9 months to work full-time on Lichess. Their name was similar to a legit processing company (paymentspring.com) , and I tried to contact the legit company, thinking maybe I could leverage their legal team. I made a few attempts, emails, phone calls, it didn't seem like it stuck. People weren't sure where to direct my request.
