Whatever safe bed you can find at this point. You've left it too late to be picky and it's looking like it's going to be the start of the the busiest, boomiest tourist season here in Italy ever. Expect to have to stay very, very, very far from city centers and transit connections or to pay $400+/night on a place. For somebody new to the system I would also recommend something like the Transit App, which you can put your whole trip into ahead of time and will give you literal step by step directions to and within stations, including voice prompts if you want. I don't need it in Chicago but I often use it in other cities where I don't know how to navigate things. Source: 12 months ago
