That's a good question. In Tetris Effect Connected there's a 1vs1 mode that replicates the NES ruleset, so your goal is to get a good score, not to send lines. And that's all Tetris Effect Connected which doesn't work like modern Tetris. The only versus game that leans more towards the classic side and has a playerbase is Cultris II.
