Its unpleasantries can be mitigated some with a browser add-on, FBPurity, that lets you selectively hide annoying aspects of their interface (videos, ads not already blocked by a decent ad blocker, games, etc.). That makes it tolerable to keep using. Source: over 1 year ago

This developer was also harassed by Facebook, with legal threats, etc. You can't even type in "fbpurity.com" in Messenger (try it) it's banned -- among other things they censor. Source: over 2 years ago

Have you tried searching for a switch emoji? Closest I could come up with is a radio button, which is just way too indistinct to even tell that's what it's supposed to be.
