  • Ask HN: Freelancers, how do you get work?
I’m a big proponent of fractional work - which I define as retained half-time or quarter-time work. It’s more stable than hourly freelance, but gives far more autonomy than employment. Some people work half time, while others work multiple fractional roles to earn more money. Even if you’re looking for short-term work, I recommend following the Fractional scene because it’s getting more traction among companies... - Source: Hacker News / 11 days ago
  • Ask HN: What are ethical companies like Patagonia and some digital counterparts?
Thanks! Yes, Booklet is where I spend most of my time. I think it's a big opportunity to have more of a hosted Discourse alternative. I'll work on some comparison pages - thanks for the suggestion. > Is it enough to live off of? I do a little bit of consulting [1] , which bridges the gap. You've written your model, controller, and routes for a new resource, you've built the form view for creating this resource, but when you fill out the form and click the submit button, nothing happens. And the logs... - Source: dev.to / 8 months ago

  • GitHub Tutorial for Dummies?
For GitHub, I'll say just do basic things and most importantly learn about merging and creating branch checkout, etc. Try to work with a team where if you even push in main by mistake it won't be a blunder. Tutorials are good but I was at the same place once. Git was scary lol. There are some intermediate things like rebase etc. But you won't need most of it. Just go with theodinproject.com it'll be enough and try... Source: 12 months ago
