  • Is there only 1 type of 4g network?
Search your phone on GSM arena and look for “VoLTE” compatible. Source: 8 months ago
  • Recommendations for an ergonomic mouse?
EDIT: Also if there is a tool where I can search/filter mice by my criteria I'd be interested in that as well. Something like gsmarena.com for computer mice. If it's out there I would love to know because I couldn't find a better way of looking for a mouse that met these requirements than looking through tons of Amazon listings or posting here 😅. • Is there a quick way to switch activation between phones?
Gsmarena.com shows that international versions have a physical sim in addition to esim. Why the differences? Only Apple knows. Source: 12 months ago
  • Hi, I live in the US
In general, the cell bands used in the US are not supported by many Xiaomi and Redmi phones (not sure if any of them have good coverage of US bands). Check on gsmarena.com for the band coverage and then check your carrier's website for what bands they have service on. If there isn't a good overlap, your phone will not be very useful for making cellular calls or using cellular data. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Nokia 2660 vs 2780
I went to Nokia.com and gsmarena.com for specs on this phone. Source: about 1 year ago

  • Apple Introduces M4 Chip
I, an engineer, am not doing this myself, too. There is a middle ground though: just use a privacy-oriented Android build, like DivestOS. [1] There are a couple caveats: 1. It is still a bit tricky for a non-technical person to install. Should not be a problem if they know somebody who can help, though. There's been some progress making the process more user friendly recently (e.g. WebUSB-based GrapheneOS... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago

...will need to be rewritten to avoid Google Play Services. Not true. All that needs to happen is for open source developers to "re-implement Google’s proprietary Android user space apps and libraries". https://microg.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago

Which one should I use? Is this MicroG's official website right? (https://microg.org/). Source: 8 months ago
  • Use ChatGPT Android app w/o Google Play Store installed/enabled
Have a look into https://microg.org/ . Revanced yt uses a fork of GmsCore for its non-root install, though you still have to log in with a google account. Source: 9 months ago
  • Magic Earth: OSM based map and routing with croud sourced traffic data
Google Play Services implements a lot of increasingly vital features and interfaces on Android. Not having it kills a good number of things people consider important, like push notifications (some apps are designed to still send push notifications like Signal, but it's kind of a hack and does drain the battery). If you're looking for almost the same functionality without google play services, MicroG[1] is an open... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
