I'd also add that I wish I had started building an audience earlier. It's invaluable to have a sounding board as well as people to get any new products in front of. At the time it felt too time-consuming, but now with tools like GummySearch for Reddit, Aware for LinkedIn, and an understanding of lists and targeting on Twitter, it really doesn't have to take long to create at least some semblance of an audience. I've been using ShareX (https://getsharex.com/) for some years, which is also open-source, and very featureful while not feeling too bloated, though Windows only.
