  • Ask HN: Anyone know any OpenAI API alternatives?
    1. Claude by Anthropic (but, expect to wait weeks/months before getting off the waitlist, which makes their offering pretty uncompelling) 2. Cohere 3. https://inferkit.com or https://textsynth.com/pricing.html. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • hey fellas - ai generated song titles!
I used https://inferkit.com/ with a list of song titles compiled and placed on separate lines with a buffer line inbetween each one, so the ai knew where to stop. also, after every generation, I erased the previously generated titles so the ai would only take inspiration from will's song titles and not itself, which is something that I saw happen a little bit where it got stuck in a "loop" of it's own creation. • Just found an ‘ai written’ fic and I’m praying this doesn’t become a trend
I can't speak for other users, but I actually do use AI-writting as an assistant of sorts when I need inspiration. (I use InferKit's free demo). Source: over 1 year ago

Thnx! I used inferkit.com, try it out for yourself! Source: almost 2 years ago

  • Pegasus Mail Newsflashes
I’ve gone through this process for my email client Kanmail [1]. The third party audit is not required for email clients that run on end users computers and store credentials locally. By the looks of it Pegasus falls into this category and should not have any issues getting approved (still need the YT video and such but the Google team are surprisingly responsive and helpful in my experience). • Ask HN: Anyone making a living building desktop applications?
I’m building a desktop email client [0] that has $45 lifetime licenses. Made to scratch my own itch I’ve been using it as my only client for 4 years now, barely makes any money though! [0] https://kanmail.io. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Compile Python applications into stand-alone executables
I use pyinstaller for my Kanmail email client [1] and it’s fantastic, but at creating Mac app bundles or Windows exes. Tried making actual standalone binaries for another project and, as others have mentioned, they’re incredibly slow to startup. Still, I am a huge fan of the project and it makes it possible to make webview desktop “apps” (like or hate them) with Python. [1] https://kanmail.io. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • How do you create a cross-platform GUI without using Electron?
There's pywebview (https://github.com/r0x0r/pywebview/) which is a Python lib that uses whatever native webview implementation exists. Obviously means some compatibility work between each OS, but gives out very small apps what work very well on the whole. I'm using it on my cross platform email client (https://kanmail.io). - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
