  • Email addresses are not good 'permanent' identifiers for accounts
Https://instantusername.com I've seen quite personal details being leaked because sometimes even smart people don't realise how easy it is to cross-reference given a unique username. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
  • Found his twitter! :)
Have tried using instantusername.com but nothing that could be him came up :( It's not a particularly unique username either so I didn't have much hope to start with. Thank you anyways :). Source: almost 2 years ago
  • CTF Writeup: VishwaCTF 2022
However, there are no videos. So I assumed that I will have to use the username JohnsonM3llisa for further investigation. I went to InstantUsername again, and looked that username up. - Source: dev.to / over 2 years ago
  • More things I've tried, various notes, hours of failure
Checking for that username - thereareotherreceivers - across the web. No luck. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Anyone know who this man is? He tells me he’s a public figure(VT, NH area), only takes pics in dark lighting(I edited this photo). He’s super sketchy and said he can’t reveal his identity because of “rumors” about him. His snap score was 8 when he added me also.
Check what his actual username is and search that instead or I can search for you. I generally prefer https://instantusername.com/. Source: over 2 years ago

  • Own full personal domain name without .com etc.
It's based on the handshake blockchain https://handshake.org/ and yes, it's outside of DNS from what I have read. I originally assumed that had bought 1,000,000 TLD at $240k each :) which is crazy as its sounds. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
  • Vickrey Auction
The Handshake [0] project used (uses?) Vickrey auction to auction off the initial supply of names. It had some other cool ideas, such as replacing certificate authorities with self-signed certificates verified by the blockchain. I know everyone hates blockchain, I kind of do too, but Handshake I found genuinely interesting. Disclaimer, I own some Handshake names so you could say I'm shilling for it but mostly the... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • So we did a thing !
Our stack is built on Handshake. You can know more at handshake.org. Source: about 1 year ago
  • ELI5: How do internet domains work? Who are you paying?
In the future things might change, there's discussions around decentralization of trust that now has accumulated with a select few (donut domains? Verisign?) Handshake is one such protocol that allows you to have decentralized trust and hence gives you freedom to have your own TLD, porkbun will even sell you one if you'd like but it's very much experimental today.
