GitHub has been barred by certain governments, and even if that isn’t exactly the company’s fault, the users are the ones limited from pushing their code. Another criticism concerns the price tag: some users have pointed out that GitHub’s pricing model is too inflexible. Moreover, some...

Let's Make Sure Github Doesn't Become the only Option
In GitHub’s early days, picking a single version control system could have legitimately been a way to focus the product. GitHub is big enough now that they could dedicate some time toward exploring other tools. But it’s not really GitHub’s job to do this. GitHub’s job is to make Microsoft money. Features that improve the lives of developers are incidental.

  • iptables help (PiVPN, Mullvad, Apache, Wireguard)
Now that Mullvad is removing port forwards, I want to access the webserver now via https://my_public_IP.com:443 (or some other port if needed). Source: about 1 year ago
  • Other patent web tech besides Google Patents?
Examiner here, in biotech. Besides our internal equivalent of Patent Public Search, Google Patents is where I start. I also use lens.org and ip.com less frequently, and SciFinder when I need to search specific chemicals. STN is for searches prior to allowance when I want to confirm that there really, really isn't any art that teaches the thing I haven't found yet. Source: about 1 year ago
  • is the new AI similarity search providing you good art?
I find ip.com context search ranked hits much better at finding relevant art than PE2E Search's new feature. Source: over 1 year ago
  • is the new AI similarity search providing you good art?
I haven't had much luck with it so far. I still need to use it some more to get a better sample size for myself, but as of now I'm more impressed with ip.com. I've had some cases on ip.com where I've used a simple 3-4 word search and it found what ended up being the best reference in the top 5-10 results. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Have we already talked about just how terrible the new USPTO search is?
We pretty much have the version of the Search tool you see now,, MS Word, and an ip.com account. They just recently pushed a feature in Search very similar to ip.com and Google's "find prior" art feature. Source: over 1 year ago

  • Figma Config 2024
Another standout talk for me was from GitHub, which discussed challenges with its design system, Primer. They went into detail about how organisational changes have altered the course of its development and how they've had to adjust to the needs of the business over time to adapt and grow. As an engineering lead, I really resonated with this talk. - Source: dev.to / 5 days ago
  • OpenSSH Race condition resulting in potential remote code execution
I have a script that looks at your github org/team and generates/updates users on-demand then lets you connect. The script is pretty straightforward, see AuthorizedKeysCommand and https://github.com/{$user}.keys. - Source: Hacker News / 6 days ago
