A pro-tip I would say you cannot live without is monitoring the phase sync betweeen your kick and bass. This has a dramatic impact on the psytrance sound, and definitely wasn't clear to me as a beginner. You need an oscilloscope (Here's a free one specifically for psytrance: PSYSCOPE – FX23 ) and you need something to shift phase - I use Kilohearts Disperser, which is paid, but I'm sure there's a freebie out... If you don't know what Disperser is, Naircol explains it. Thanks to T-Mech Music and Echo Pierce for teaching me their respective disperser clones using EQ Three and Phaser-Flanger, respectively.
