• Looking for a piece of software that would help me in writing a book. I haven't written much so I have no expectations. I found some fancy, full-featured app for Mac that costs $50, was wondering if there was anything FOSS with fewer features.

  Looks like you want something that integrates well with your workflow. The closest to your description seems to be Manuskript although I haven't used it. But your requirement of "keeping notes and frameworks and linking back and forth" should be possible by stitching together existing Linux tools using a syntax like markdown or asciidoc so that you can use any text editor to write your story and use external tools...   Check out invoicely.com, I used them when I was starting out. It's pretty easy to use and the invoice looks very neat. They have an option to send your invoice to your client in pdf form so they can download it if they need to. They also send you a notif if your client has opened the invoice.
