Maybe a web-based IRC client could serve you well, such as mibbit.com if you only want to get to one particular server and channel.. It might be easier to just visit a web site such as this, punch in the server, channel & nickname details, and whala.. Than to install an application if you're not particularly techie. Just 2 cents.
