  • So, how do you get music for your self-hosted server?
This should help substantially: https://picard.musicbrainz.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 29 days ago
  • "Unacceptable": Spotify bricking Car Thing devices in Dec. without refunds
No need to use the server, Navidrome allows any client to connect remotely (WAN included) and play music that is hosted on the server. It also can be set up to transcode on the fly uncompressed music when it is accessed from a metered connection to minimize bandwidth usage. I barely scratched its surface, but it looks promising. The only requirement is that it needs the correct metadata to identify songs and... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
  • Mp3tag – The Universal Tag Editor
I highly recommend Musicbrainz Picard: https://picard.musicbrainz.org/ It will match against the Musicbrainz database and will acoustically ID your files, so the tags can be completely wrong. Just dump folders of albums into the client, it will group and sort things and ID them. It works great. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
  • Fans quitting Spotify to save their love of music (2022)
Have you tried https://www.funkwhale.audio/? It can be used effectively as a "private spotify". Labeling is a solved problem thanks to https://picard.musicbrainz.org/, and the fact that a lot of the music you buy these days comes pre-labeled already. You then have a web-app (and/or a mobile app, if that's your thing) where you can stream music as you would with Spotify. You can even build yourself a little... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
  • What do you use to tag your music on an NAS (Unraid)?
I use picard for my collection. My work flow is Picard > Lyrics Finder > Foobar for BPM, RealGain and DR > Custom python script to pull genre and mood from Last.FM and spotify> then Advanced Renamer to perform naming clean up of folder names. I lowercase and underscore spaces. Also does files if I happen to need Mp3Tag when Picard doesn't find anything. Once this is done I move files on to may NAS. Source: 7 months ago

  • For real, does anyone else have this problem? I listen to the sand ~five records every night. I want to diversify, but I love the comfort of the familiar
Try this site out. It’s basically a similar to this music finder. I do encourage you to try and expand your tastes, but it’s definitely a habit to listen to use music, so ease into it! I usually make a goal of 3 new albums a week. Magic playlist. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Tips for efficient digging sessions
In regards to OP’s question, lately I’ve been digging through genre specific sub-Reddits. There are tonnes of people out there who are absolutely obsessive about their love of certain artists. If I’m digging someone’s taste, I might go look at their comment history to see what else they like. I might then take any of the tunes that I find, plug them into Magic Playlist and then flip through the suggested tracks... Source: over 2 years ago
  • Music discovery
MagicList will do that for you. I can't recall if it'll make a direct connect with Apple Music or if you have to import it from Spotify using SongShift. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • I almost never like the music in my Discover Weekly playlist... Anyone else?
My kids have completely fucked the algorithm listening to their shite, so I abandoned it a while back and now when I'm looking for new music I use this - you can create a new playlist based on a track you like and it'll push it straight to Spotify: https://magicplaylist.co/.
