The 10 Best Immutable Linux Distributions in 2024
Why it’s on the list: NixOS uses the Nix package manager, which treats packages as isolated from each other. This unique approach to package management virtually eliminates “dependency hell”.

Snapdrop Reviews

  1. A Complete waste of time from a 4 decade mac pro user

Takes forever to send even small video files with high speed internet. Horrible documentation for transferring instructions. No option in the app menu to choose a destination folder. There's no way to compress all of your videos on an android to send to the Mac, even though that is suggested in their "features". And not 1 single video could I find in 2 hours of google searches that answered these questions. For a company touting such "ease of use", as a 40 year mac user, this was another waste of time app. If the company would like to contact me and answer these questions, if it is indeed an "easy, reliable app", I will gladly help them make a video that actually walks people through the problems I have encountered.

  2. Excellent way to share a folder with multiple files to another computer

SnapDrop does an excellent job in sharing multiple files to another computer. Just zip/compress a folder with multiple files and select that zipped folder to send to the other computer or mobile device.

  • Tenv v2.0: The Importance of Explicit Behavior for Version Manager
Tenv manages all tools by wrapping them in an additional binary that serves as a proxy for the original tool. It means you can't install Terraform or OpenTofu on an ordinary Linux machine alongside tenv (except NixOS case). At our tool, we supply a binary with the same name as the tool (Terraform / OpenTofu / Terragrunt / Atmos), within which we implement the proxy pattern. It was required since it simplifies... - Source: dev.to / 2 days ago
  • I use NixOS for my home-server, and you should too!
As we covered in my last post, NixOS is a amazing Linux distribution for creating stable and declared environments. Now while this is amazing for a desktop setup, it is also perfect for a home-server or home-lab. - Source: dev.to / 2 months ago
  • Colima k8s nix setup
Nix is a cross-platform package manager. It uses the nix programming language. Nix and NixOs are often used in the same context, but while the first is a package manager, the latter is a linux distribution based on nix. - Source: dev.to / 3 months ago
  • NixOs - Your portable dev enviroment
Today I want to talk to you about Nixos. What is it? Nixos is a declarative and reproducible OS, partly taking the words used on their own page. What does that mean? - Source: dev.to / 3 months ago
  • Nix – A One Pager
Software developers often want to customize: 1. Their home environments: for packages (some reach for brew on MacOS) and configurations (dotfiles, and some reach for stow). 2. Their development shells: for build dependencies (compilers, SDKs, libraries), tools (LSP, linters, formatters, debuggers), and services (runtime, database). Some reach for devcontainers here. 3. Or even their operating systems: for... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
