    For me, one of the best roguelites is Nuclear Throne. They have permadeath, they have procedural levels, the have difficulty peaks but all is set correctly. All the progress come on the skills.     A lot of people use Substance Painter (or other tools - thinking of trying out Armor Paint at some point) to make the textures separately after making the mesh and UVs in Blender.
