  There is a paid app called Our Pact that we used when my kids were younger. We don't use that anymore but did until they hit about 15 or so. It's really good; works on both android and ios. Generally more modern than IRC, these platforms are primarily developed as FOSS software. This makes it less likely for developers to impact their users negatively.
