You didn't mention about brand of the switches, but majority of vendors is covered with Oxidized: https://github.com/ytti/oxidized Just configure it with git backend, and you have version control and device backups. First, run a site backup -- both the database and static files on the server (e.g., theme files, image uploads). Ideally you'll also know or figure out how to restore the site with said backup.
