The other - perhaps more important - reason to provide a laptop is data risk management. If the laptop is yours, you can force encryption, backups, and install endpoint security tools, which allow you to remotely wipe it if lost/stolen/fired. Not really a sorter, but https://brickit.app/ was mentioned on HN a while back, and does AI-based lego identification.
