Though with flights, you can also optimize a lot if you have enough lead time: I recommend https://skyscanner.com/ Trains are nice if you need to transport anything of volume, if you stay longer than a day or two so you can amortize the travel time, if you have lots of run-up time, and probably cheaper if you travel a lot.   I am still trying to break into the industry and I have some confidence issues regarding my ability to do the job. I have always been a more hands-on person so until I can get my hands wet it's hard for me to feel comfortable.
