If you want to go lower-level, then I would recommend against ncurses, and instead start with notcurses or termbox. termbox has lots of language bindings, but the author is no longer maintaining it. I can also recommend serverless.com framework for local development and running lambdas offline. AWS provides a docker image for emulating DynamoDB which works great for local dev and will commonly be paired with lambdas.
