I did what you did a few years back. I bought my (1st) Ergodox-EZ and I switched to Colemak and the new keyboard at the same time. I practiced heavily using keybr.com and thetypingcat.com for about 2 weeks, then had to force myself to stop using QWERTY altogether. I just used my EZ for all my typing. There are many programs you can enroll her in BUT if she wants to work at her own pace you can look online for what your state/municipality expects a child to know in each year.
