  • Nvidia pursues $30B custom chip opportunity with new unit
There are already ways to get around this. For example, renting compute from people who aren't in datacenters. Which is already a thing: https://vast.ai. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
  • A SETI-like project to train LLM on libgen, scihub and the likes?
By "SETI" I assume you mean the SETI@Home distributed computing project. There's a two-way market where you can rent out your GPU here: https://vast.ai/. - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago

  • Ask HN: What's the best hardware to run small/medium models locally?
Have you considered running on a cloud machine instead? You can rent machines on https://vast.ai/ for under $1 an hour that should work for small/medium models (I've mostly been playing with stable diffusion so I don't know what you'd need for an LLM off hand). Good GPUs and Apple hardware is pricey. Get a bit of automation setup with some cloud storage (e.g backblaze B2) and you can have a machine ready to run... - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago

  • Should i just get the Klipsch the fives?
That's a fantastic price for a good all in one system. It also has a hdmi arc which would be great for movies, tv, gaming. You would have to spend much much more to get similar value in speakers + amp. May I ask what speaker stands you are looking at? I have also been on the market for a pair, been eyeing on a few at monoprice.com but their inventory seems f'ed up. Source: 7 months ago
  • PSA: Your HDMI cable version matters
Go to monoprice.com and buy a certified hdmi 2.1 cable for 17$. They are one of the best websites for quality cables. Source: 7 months ago
  • Monolith AMT: Summit-Fi on a budget
They are on sale at monoprice.com for $419.99 with their EXTRA30 code. Once EQ'd they are truly TOTL Summit-Fi worthy. They use the same pinout as the M1570, so make sure you get the correct Balanced cable, else you risk shorting your amp. Periapt and Hart Audio make cables for them, as well as Monoprice. (I have MP's). Source: 7 months ago
  • How to power my Klipsch Rf3 ii...
Costco has decent Denon and Yamaha AVRs in stock. Those would be full on surround sound receivers so you could go that route in the future. If you just want stereo, Marantz has a really good integrated amp. But many companies have great 2 channel integrated amps. If you are in the US (that was my assumption) get on Crutchfield's website and search for 2 channel amps. If you just get "an amp" you'll need a pre-amp... Source: 7 months ago
  • From scratch media room design, what should I do?
If you're hell bent on putting a TV/Surround sound in there, you'd want in wall speakers, which you can find at amazon, best buy, monoprice.com and I'm sure other places as well. You may want to consider adding insulation to the walls. Source: about 1 year ago
