  I've found VictoriaMetrics all-in-one binary to be perfect size for home at the very least for metrics gathering. Supports Prometheus querying and few other formats for ingesting so any knowledge bout "how to get data into prometheus" applies pretty much 1:1 + their own vmagent is pretty advanced.   I am not part of the company in any way but please take a look at https://victoriametrics.com/. They are not very popular in the US but the product is easier to manage and more scalable than any other open source Prometheus replacements.   Some of it can be migrated rather easily to Icinga https://icinga.com/. Icinga forked from Nagios many years ago, they rewrote the engine and have done a nice WebUI. It is able to support e.g. Business branches using "satellites" that act as proxy to the main server/ server cluster.   Fast forward 12 years and I have Icinga2 collectors in each datacenter using check_by_ssh to run check_systemd, all front-ended by Thruk.
