One really cool feature that KOReader has for self-hosters though is support for wallabag, which is a "read it later" service that you can self-host. Then you can access your saved articles through its web UI, Android app or KOReader. I highly recommend checking it out if you like reading articles. Goodreads.com allows you to browse recent releases. They have lists of books and a bit of code that can link you from one book to other similar books.
