Android on the desktop works very well on Wayland with Waydroid and it even supports Google Play store. https://waydro.id/ Great running apps not available on Linux with a touchscreen PC. It only seems to run Android apps compiled for x86, but it is very fast. There are practical use cases, and it is very usable. I haven’t tried it on WSL2, but it seems like a practical approach without reliance on Microsoft. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
> What's the best alternative? Waydroid runs Android apps on Linux and some people claim have gotten it to work on WSL. - Waydroid: https://waydro.id Reddit threads: - https://www.reddit.com/r/bashonubuntuonwindows/comments/eofn5s/run_anbox_on_wsl_2/ - https://www.reddit.com/r/waydroid/comments/10y813d/is_it_possible_to_install_waydroid_on_wsl/ -... - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
There's a piece of software called Waydroid[1] that allows you to run Android applications on GNU/Linux platforms - including the PinePhone. Sxmo, despite its name, can run Wayland instead of X and therefore supports Waydroid. Personally, I haven't managed to get Waydroid to work, a task hindered due to some massive initial downloads which are required to set it up. However, I haven't tried particular hard, and... - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago

I have setup an Arch linux server on my old pc. I mainly use it for plex, transmission, docker etc and it works pretty well! I wanted to install Waydroid https://waydro.id/ on that server. Is there a way that I can view waydroid using a VNC viewer on my laptop on the same network? Is it possible or would I have to install a GUI like xfce before installing waydroid to view the same on tigervnc or some other VNC... Source: 8 months ago
At some point all of us wanted to have a fully customized and flexible Linux configuration, not having a pre-configured system like Manjaro for example. There must be people out there, who are not a big fans of DE (Desktop Environments). Sure I also got into the arch world with Plasma's KDE, but after a while, it become dull, so that's when I started getting into configuring my setup, but when I had to do it every... - Source: dev.to / 2 months ago
I use MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid-2014) with Manjaro as OS using i3 as a window manager. It isn't perfect, but I'm thrilled with it. I have been a Mac OS user for the last 15 years and wouldn't change what I have now for a Mac OS because I don't need more than what I'm using for development. Source: 11 months ago
At any rate, you can try Breath, Crouton, Manjaro... Those are three of the distros people have found success with. It all boils down to the specific hardware involved... Which we know nothing about since you kept that to yourself. Source: 12 months ago
