I strongly recommend adding a schema validator to anything that generates XML. ATOM¹ has a nice schema available² that you can use at the end to check the whole thing (I use xmllint³, since it is in a lot of package repositories). It's not as monolithic as you'd think. There are lots of engines out there but their communities aren't very vocal compared to Unity, Unreal, and especially Godot's community.
