For anyone looking for a modern alternative to Visual Basic, you might want to take a look at Xojo. Xojo's a rapid application development platform (both a language and an IDE) that you can use to develop desktop apps (for macOS, Windows, Linux), Web apps, mobile apps (for iOS and Android), as well as console apps. It's been around for more than 20 years, and some of you might remember it from back when it was... - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago
I really recommend Xojo[1] (formally RealBasic). It’s like a modern VB6 but runs on macOS, Windows and many flavours of Linux. It has very polished drag and drop UI editor. Other interesting projects to also follow: * Caprover * Dokku. Source: almost 2 years ago
If I could make a recommendation, it would be to give Dokku a try. (Disclaimer: not affiliated, but like the project so much I sponsor it. My opinions are biased towards it.). Source: almost 2 years ago
My next favorite option is to host on a DigitalOcean VM. You can use Dokku to get your own mini-Heroku PaaS, or manage the VM yourself (following Microsoft's documentation). You can get a $100 60-day credit from a referral link - A good way to get started. Source: about 2 years ago
