All DNS zones on CZDS have the same format, and AFAIK all nTLDs are required to use it. But you're right for ccTLDs -- everyone uses their own format and most don't even allow you to get the zone file. Sure. I personally prefer other Whois providers over ICANN (there are lots of Whois providers, including GoDaddy). I use domaintools.com because they show more data and I like the way they lay it out, including a visual country flag for the website host location.
