I recommend learning docker first, then pick a vps host from vpsbenchmarks, then use k3sup to deploy a kubernetes cluster on that, then follow a getting-started kubernetes tutorial from there. You'll also want to buy a domain name with tld-list and then provision a TLS certificate with cert-manager and letsencrypt (skip steps 1-4 because Google Cloud is overpriced). If you're setting it up locally, you're looking at either something like rancher desktop or setting up an ubuntu 20.04 vm + using the absolutely delightful k3up https://github.com/alexellis/k3sup + helm to install something like metallb, then nginx ingress. You need metallb (or similar) to get your local server exposing your services correctly. Source: almost 3 years ago

Learning Kubernetes (K8s) for me was about getting pissed off enough at Bezos for all the money he was making off of me lol. I wanted to have my own little infrastructure that I control but without having to babysit it. I tried Docker Swarm, which was nice but wasn’t translating into professional-grade cluster experience. I found a project called Open FAAS that let me deploy my own Lambda/serverless. It ran on... Source: over 3 years ago
