I'd imagine even just individual small-time investors are having a pretty large impact. I know several people--none of whom are wealthy--who own a few rentals as a side income/investment as I'm sure a lot of people do. The rental homes are generally exactly the type of house that first-time buyers would be looking at as a starter home, but instead they're off the buyers market likely for decades because the owners... A GPS map app may get you within a reasonable distance of the corner. I use CalTopo, but parcel boundaries require a paid subscription. Regrid or similar services often have trials of their parcel data. Note that GPS generated parcel bounds are often inaccurate, and should not be relied upon. Use GPS to get close. Documented evidence on the ground determines the bound. Source: about 2 years ago

In the US this tends to be done at the city or county level, as far as I know. In my state each city has their own land parcel database that they make available. That said, this commenter pointed to https://regrid.com as a company that aggregates all this local data and provides a nationwide parcel map - https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33755133. Regrid looks great and might work for you. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
You might also be interested in Regrid, https://regrid.com/ They started as a Detroit-only grassroots effort called "Why don't we own this?", tracking property auctions and helping locals buy adjacent parcels when they came available. But quickly they realized this data was powerful once it was easy to access. Which was no mean feat -- every locality has their own terrible way to store parcel data, it seems, and... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago

Thank you. I am searching in regrid.com. Is that the correct site to search through? I see:. Source: over 2 years ago
I encourage you to look up the millage rate of the municipality you're considering. It's applied to the taxable value if your property, which is determined by the county assessor. Detroit has a famously-high millage rate, but remarkably reasonable taxable value if you live in a less-popular neighborhood. But the metro region is experiencing the same housing crunch as everywhere else, so even with a lower millage... Source: over 2 years ago
Regrid should provide insight into property ownership. You may need to pay for tax records. Source: almost 3 years ago
I looked on Regrid to get a ballpark of their locations and then waved a metal detector around for a few minutes. One note here: my deed specifically states these pins are the boundary, many older properties that aren't part of a development have deeds written like "200ft due west to the large pile of rocks". Looking on sites, like acrevalue.com and regrid.com, it looks like he's correct. Looking at my recent survey (not yet submitted to the register of deeds), I might be in the clear because the edge of the 66ft wide right-of-way falls on the corner of my property. That said, Michigan's right-of-way descriptions are pretty wishy-washy: "In some cases, a farmer or rural resident may own to the middle of the road. In... Source: almost 3 years ago
So I'm looking on Regrid (formerly MakeLoveLand) where you can look up property owners and there are many properties registered to non-Detroit owners along Jefferson just inside the city border. I'm seeing owner mailing addresses of Sterling Heights, Northville, St. Clair Shores, Miami Beach, Brooklyn NY, "Urban Renewal Initiative" Grosse Pointe Park (many lots owned by this group). Check it out. Source: almost 3 years ago
Gah. No, the SEV is half of the true cash value (or assessed value), which is determined by the Assessor, and is not the sale price. You could pay $10 million for your house, but if your neighbors all pay 1/30th of that, you will only be taxed on a small fraction. It can be used to estimate your worst case scenario, but, especially in Detroit, the SEV (and thus the taxable value) tends to be much, much lower. When... Source: about 3 years ago
