  • Reviewing Footage Faster with Tools for Editing
Unfortunately, I've been having a difficult time putting this into practice with Premiere Pro, with some of the current methods by which you can do this not working quite right- AE Script Silence Remover is clunky and often just doesn't want to work; ReCut actually seems rather promising, if I could get it to work as intended; and I can't be made to care about TimeBolt or AutoCut because of their expensive... • Anything like autopod.fm for DaVinci? AI multicam/silence cut/jump cut
I use Recut https://getrecut.com/ to trim silence automatically. Then export XML and import into DR as timeline. It's not an alternative to AutoPod, but works really well for what it is. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • The Tauri Mobile Alpha Release
I’ve enjoyed working with Tauri a lot, and I’m excited to check out the mobile release. I’ve been using it for about a year now, paired with Svelte, to build a video editor [0] and it’s been really nice speed-wise. I haven’t felt like Tauri is the bottleneck in probably 99% of cases (usually it ends up being my own code!). One area they could improve, and I think they’re working on for 2.0, is the IPC mechanism... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • The Guide to FFmpeg
Late 2020 I had the same thought, I was making screencasts and hated doing all the cutting to turn my 45 minutes of mistakes into a 3 minute video. So I made a similar script in Node, where it used ffmpeg’s silencedetect and instead of outputting a new video, it saved an EDL file that I could import into an editor like DaVinci Resolve, and then I could fine tune the edits. As soon as that worked I wanted more -... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
  • Ask HN: Any good black Friday deals?
I'm doing a 50% off sale for my app Recut, https://getrecut.com It's a simplified video editor that removes pauses and dead air, and creates a cut list you can then import into a "real" editor. Saves a bunch of time if you're doing talking-head videos, vlogging, podcasts, screencasts... The sorts of content where the first step of editing is to chop out the long pauses and mistakes. I originally built it because I... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago

  • Ask HN: Where can I find small companies to work for part-time?
I don’t really know. I looked for the same thing a few years back and had a hard time finding anything. Now I’m doing my own thing, which lately looks like building a video editor [0]. If you (or anyone else) is good with Rust and Svelte/TypeScript and want some (very) part-time work here and there, contact info is in my profile. 0: https://getrecut.com. - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
  • A declarative desktop UI framework for Rust built on GTK and GTK-rs
I’ve been enjoying using Tauri to develop a desktop app for the last few months. As someone who’s been a web dev, and a C++/Qt dev before that, I think it strikes a nice balance. I can use my web skills on the UI, and do the heavy lifting in Rust, and it’s all very fast. I’m building a video editor [0] (actually rebuilding an app that was originally in Swift) and I’ve been happy to see that the performance is... - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
  • Any apps that drastically improved your editing efficiency?
My favorite is Recut (https://getrecut.com/). I wish I discovered it sooner. It automatically removes silence and interruptions from audio recordings. Makes editing easier now. What about yours? Source: almost 3 years ago

  • Do Things, Tell People
In a very meta twist of fate, I just heard about this article today on a podcast, and then realized Aaron (from the podcast) is the OP! If anyone wants to get some advice on how to use Twitter like a human being I recommend a listen. It was a great convo: https://share.transistor.fm/s/c854b56e In the spirit of the post, a thing I did last year is build a minimal video editor (https://getrecut.com) focused almost... - Source: Hacker News / about 3 years ago
  • Show HN: Edit videos faster by automatically removing silences
I get the use case. Not sure there's enough value here as a cloud-based SaaS product. I use a similar product called Recut (https://getrecut.com/). $99 one-time fee (no subscription). Easy to open the edited project in NLEs. Macos only. Unclear that Kapwing is a better option when Recut would be breakeven at seven months and you can don't need to round trip videos in the cloud. - Source: Hacker News / about 3 years ago
  • Ask HN: Anyone making a living building desktop applications?
I tried to make 2 different desktop apps in 2021 and failed at both. Atomic Edits[0] is a desktop app that helps YouTubers (like me) automatically remove silence in videos. It went viral on Reddit[1] but I realized later that building a video editing app with Electron (and not C++) was a bad choice. Library support video/audio editing was lacking. Recut[2] is an app that basically does what Atomic Edits aimed to... - Source: Hacker News / over 3 years ago

  • Vercel Welcomes Rich Harris, Creator of Svelte
This seems like a huge positive step forward for Svelte and the community. Big congrats to Rich! I've been excited about Svelte for a while and recently chose to use it as the UI for a cross-platform video editing app [0]. I've found it a pleasure to work with -- Svelte Stores and the Context system are especially great for sharing state, and the app feels snappy. Last few weeks most of the focus has been on the... - Source: Hacker News / over 3 years ago

  • How do YouTubers make tiny cuts in their video when talking?
Recut does this, currently only for Mac but we’re working on a Windows version as well. Source: over 3 years ago
  • How can I make myself enjoy editing?
Or do you prefer having one long clip and going through it to cut the junk? If you do, I suggest checking out https://getrecut.com. The app shaved off HOURS of effort for me and gets you to the “good” part of editing much quicker. Source: over 3 years ago
