  • Creating a search engine for fun and because Google sucks
I've been using SearXNG[1] via Perplexica[2] and I couldn't be happier. It replaced Google and ChatGPT/Perplexity type search engines for me and it's the first tool I use for question answer type searches. [1] - https://docs.searxng.org. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago

Privacy-focused metasearch engines, like SearXNG[1] and 4get[2], should be considered more comprehensive and private than any one index or engine. [1]https://docs.searxng.org/. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • What search engine do you use?
Recently I came across SearXNG, it's a privacy respecting search engine Aggregator. Amazing tool. Worth checking : https://docs.searxng.org. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Your privacy is optional
I have switched over to using DuckDuckGo as my main search engine, but I may set up SearNGX behind a VPN in the future. - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago

The more you rely on ChatGPT, the less you'll be able to think for yourself. For searching I use Presearch and SearxNG. It's your mind. Be careful what you feed it. :). Source: about 2 years ago
  • I plan to build my own AI powered search engine for my portfolio. Do you know ones that are open-source?
Lots of selfhosters run SearxNG & its documentation is really well established with a good API to interact with out of the box. I just love the results from a dozen or so different engines which makes it really easy to filter out the "SEO hackers" that have ruined search for almost every common keyword. • Duck duck go vs google
So when are we gonna start telling people that SearX(NG) exists? I don't think it's for everybody (for example, a lot of the instant answer widgets are missing), but the search results are really good because it's basically what DuckDuckGo does but with even more (major) search engines. You can even set it up so it only gets results from DDG and Brave, for example. Source: over 2 years ago
  • DuckDuckGo for Mac beta now open to the public
Could you share more about this please? Some quick reading of SearxNG's docs* and testing out an instance* shows some very good search results. > If you run your own instance, it's better to share that instance with friends or family so they can dilute your search queries with theirs, and it makes it much harder for your instance to be tracked the same as they'd track you. Or, you can use a public instance which... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
