Sounds pretty similar to the situation I found myself in. I discovered a few newsletters/tools: trending insights (free), exploding topics ($39/mo), and trends.co ($300/ yr). Source: over 1 year ago
i'm still going on upwork, still subbing to trends.co, explodingideas.co type content, still watching youtube to gain an edge. Source: almost 2 years ago
After that the hustle team built trends.co which was the premium subscription newsletter,Getting into trends.co costs a whopping $299 but trends stood out from it's competitors through the community engagement feature, unlike other premium newsletter the subscribers can engage with other founders and people in their community. I don't wanna discourage people from trying to make side income with AI novels done with ChatGPT/Claude, or coloring books done with Midjourney, but that's literally the lowest hanging fruit. Instead - maybe focus on some no-code AI apps you could build. I found plenty of success stories and ideas on sites like trends.co or theaiplug.co. Source: almost 2 years ago
I really like the one I recommended above. If you are looking to invest a little I think the best possible one is trends.co but the only issue is that costs $300 a year or something. Source: almost 2 years ago
Help people save money or make more money. Maybe look at some emerging categories that are getting a ton of interest like the AI category. trends.co and explodingideas.co might be good resources too. They do market research on new business opportunities that take advantage of behavioral changes, regulatory changes and/or technological changes. Source: almost 2 years ago
Curious what types of data you get to help you make decisions as to what ideas are good to pursue. I subscribe to ahrefs, trends.co ($300/year) explodingideas.co (free) and more signals that either give me new growing trends to my email or share new emerging business ideas. Do you use any tools you think are worth trying out? Source: almost 2 years ago
The thing with all of the AI / agency / online store and earlier crypto stuff is that they are all following trends, and trends make short term money. So while paying $300 for things like trends.co spending all your time on twitter or reading the onbird newsletter means you are going to end up just following the most recent trends that are making people money now. I think those that are actually doing interesting... Source: almost 2 years ago
I think the number would be relatively low, maybe around a couple hundred thousand dollars. This is mostly because I am a bit bored with what I am doing now. I spend a bunch of my time scrolling Twitter and Reddit looking for new business opportunities. Honestly reading things like this newsletter and others like trends.co have been kinda bad for me as an operator because I end up wasting a bunch of my time. Source: almost 2 years ago
What I would recommend is first understanding what type of businesses are out there, either through free things like google trends, this newsletter I found helps, or trends.co (this one is expensive) to understand what is out there. Look for rising trends to capture some sort of hype. Source: almost 2 years ago
Here's how I have always thought about starting a new side hustle, you need to understand what is out there. I feel like if this is just a side hustle and you are not looking to quit your job and start something completely new, it is best to piggyback off of ideas that have worked in the past or are working. I think stuff online is the easiest way to start, usually because it requires less money to start. There... Source: almost 2 years ago
There are some good business minded people in the trends.co facebook group and the explodingideas.co slack group. Basically you want to go to groups that attract other people looking to build businesses. Since you're looking for someone who wants to build an online D2C style business and has the skillset to do it, you'll probably want to go in an internet native online business group. For example; trends.co is not very good because the people that write for them are journalists, not business owners so although the writing is good, the ideas are poorly researched. On the other hand, meetglimpse.com is pretty good, they have nuanced and unique business ideas that you can take advantage of but the market research behind it is a little lacking, their chrome extension tool is great tho. And then... Source: almost 2 years ago
This is sick it's kind of like explodingideas.co or trends.co love the initiative. Source: almost 2 years ago
Lol. What about trends.co / explodingideas.co etc. Does that help at all basically outsourcing product/market fit? Source: almost 2 years ago
Yea probably. It could be conspiracy or just drifting away from the industrial revolution construct of tons of employees at a specific company. Bill tai is a big proponent of this change and it seems like maybe it's happening slowly. I've been thinking about it myself, companies like trends.co and explodingideas.co and the other similar side hustle companies are attempting to cash in on it. Who knows why it's... That's not to say he couldn't get started testing businesses like dropshipping or something like that. Business creation is a great skill. OP should prioritize school first and foremost and instead of video games or something try to build a business in his free time. Or join a entrepreneurship group online like trends.co or explodingideas.co there's no harm in it imo and we need more entrepreneurial minded people... Source: almost 2 years ago
I use a collection of tools. I use things like google trends, ahrefs, trends.co, explodingideas.co, and just jump between them all to check ideas and look in depth to where the opportunity is. it's a process so I'm always looking for new ideas every week. I'm not necessarily pursuing them all but I like to know whats happening in the market and if there's something interesting I can do I'll go do it. Source: almost 2 years ago
If this is you, pivot or exit. that's what I would do at least. Maybe you can move into a category that is growing but can still make use of the same infra. Like AI or something. With the market sentiment around an incoming recession there might be further downward pressure on prices making it increasingly difficult to push prices up. I would personally look to get into something else if these points are true. The... Source: almost 2 years ago
You could do food truck or something like that that drunk kids will want or find a trendier thing to launch like something from trends.co or explodingideas.co it really depends what your skillset is. Do you want physical product or digital? Could probably do something around book notes or AI driven textbook chapter summaries. Idk world is your oyster tbh! Source: almost 2 years ago
i'd give it a few weeks to test different angles and if it's too much of a slog it may be worth fusing it with another business idea angle; something like on trends.co or explodingideas.co they usually have well researched trendy ideas that you could manipulate for this use case potentially.
