I was farting around in MusicBee today and turned on Milkdrop2, always loved the visuals. So I down into the rabbit hole for Winamp and found that the latest community project for it (https://getwacup.com/) already has a better Milkdrop with a configurator for it to change the resolution and refresh rate.
