Check out Zephyr OS and Platform IO. Zephyr is part of the Linux foundation and has similarities to Linux with how it performs hardware abstraction (device tree). Platform IO integrates with other frameworks including mbed and Arduino. Source: almost 2 years ago

I like Zephyr RTOS because it works on other ARM chips, such as Nordic and NXP. Also runs on risc-v, x86, qemu, etc. Source: almost 4 years ago
It might be worth looking at Zephyr - https://zephyrproject.org/ - on the NRF52. It's more of a complete system / framework, rather than just an RTOS, but it has some good examples for the nrf52 ecosystem. Source: about 4 years ago
