On Mac I swear by CleanShot X [1] which has more than justified its price many times over for me. [1] https://cleanshot.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
Above you see the final result of the download page on web. While working on this page I was going back and forth finetuning the design and I remembered there was this tool that could show you dimensions on the screen with the click of a button. I’m a pixel perfect guy by nature and I do a lot of measuring when I develop my apps, but I’m a bit more loose when I do something like this. However, some things were... - Source: dev.to / 11 months ago
I take screenshots or short video recordings almost daily, and Cleanshot X is so great for this. - Source: dev.to / 12 months ago
I’m just using CleanShotX [0] which is an awesome image annotation tool for macOS. It’s way better than the built-in tool that macOS comes with. You can also record as a gif for video which is nice, I use it often to make guides for my day job and my business. [0] https://cleanshot.com. - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago
I built the demo video for https://plandex.ai myself using CleanShot X (https://cleanshot.com/), Adobe Premiere Pro, an effect I bought in Adobe's marketplace, some AppleScript automation, and music from SoundStripe (https://soundstripe.com/). It was my first time using all these tools. It took me a couple days to make the video. Premier is a bit of a beast, but by just asking ChatGPT how to do everything, I was... - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago

Not the person you’re replying to but CleanShotX [0] is my favorite tool for this. Yes macOS has improved their screenshot annotation tools but they suck compared to CleanShotX. I take way more screenshots now to covey information and it’s invaluable to quickly explain a UI. I make guides for work or my clients with it all the time. I use it to highlight the button they need to click, label “1”, “2”, “3”, for the... - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
Absolutely - Especially because Screenshot software has come a _long_ way CleanShotX[1] is one of - if not _the_ best - piece of software I've ever payed for. It does one thing, and does it extremely well. 1. https://cleanshot.com/. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago

No, it's taking a screenshot of the browser's content, then adding padding to the surrounding image, and letting you pick a colour for it. Screenshot Software like Cleanshot X and Xnapper have this feature built in, either as a default or as a customisable setting. They're basically making it unnecessary to use a third-party screenshot tool to achieve the same effect. Why would you want it? I have no clue.... Source: over 1 year ago

I churned with Loom too because I don't need the storage part and was looking for an alternative. I like the idea of an open-source Loom alternative. However, if anyone is looking, I found out that an old software I was using, Cleanshot[1], added the feature to record your webcam and screen with their recent update. I have started using it again. An absolutely fantastic screenshot tool. Started using it recently with my first MacBook, and it has been a pleasant experience. Using the text extractor & gradient layer feature the post for my work, and it has been a great experience. Can recommend.
